  1. What is the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants?

  2. Why is natural deodorant better?

  3. Can I just switch to natural deodorant?

But first things first, let’s answer the most important question:

What are the differences between deodorants and antiperspirants?

A very big misconception, although a product can be both deodorant and antiperspirant, they are two different things.

The major difference is a deodorant usually includes alcohol, and blocks odor by altering the pH of your skin. An antiperspirant temporarily blocks sweat pores with aluminum-based compounds.

Why is natural deodorant better?

As much of an unpleasant truth as it may be, the simple reason is your body needs to sweat!

Sweating is important to help regulate body temperature and release toxins. Traditional deodorants and antiperspirants may contain aluminum and other chemicals that tend to clog your pores and not allow your body to sweat the way it needs to. Additionally, the buildup of these ingredients on your skin, mixed with the bacteria that causes sweat can actually make your body odor worse.

Natural deodorants still help to prevent body odor by not allowing the natural bacteria to mix with the water and sweat on your skin. They don’t disrupt the natural flora of your skin and allow for natural perspiration to happen.

Finally, by allowing your body to sweat the way it needs to, you may be able to reduce the amount of perspiration that occurs and the intensity of your body odor.

Can I just switch to natural deodorant?

Yes! Word on the street is natural deo’s should agree with everyone. But what makes ours the best natural deodorant is that its free of aluminum, alcohol and baking soda. And its very effective.

Remember, you’re switching from a chemical-laden deodorant to an aluminum free deodorant. You must give your body some time to adjust to these changes and understand what the process will be like.

Remember if this is a new product, we always recommend that you do an allergy test on your wrist before using it just in case you have an unknown sensitivity to any ingredient.

How long does it take for my body to adjust to natural deodorant?

The reality is, it can take up to 30 days for your body to adjust to natural deodorant, although for some this adjustment period may be shorter.

During this time, it is totally normal that you notice a spike in your body odor. This just means your body is getting rid of all the aluminum clogging your pores and regulating the natural flora of the skin.

The good news is this spike should only last about two weeks, and there are always tips and tricks for it. You should notice a stronger odor during the second week, then it should move to mild until you finally reach the stage of no odor.

Do I have to do a deo detox before switching?

From the moment you make the switch your body will go through a process of deo detox. This is totally normal and unavoidable.

In the previous question we explained the expected length of your detox. Now we’ll give you some tricks that can help you reduce underarm smell during this time:

  1. Dabbing apple cider vinegar or witch hazel on dry underarm before applying your deo.

  2. Doing a clay mask for a max of 10 mins on your underarm.

  3. Using a charcoal soap to wash your underarms before applying deodorant.

During this time, you may feel that you need to apply deodorant more frequently. That is also normal. However, we recommend that before re-applying deodorant you always clean and dry your underarms.

Can I use BAMandBOO’s natural deo on sensitive skin?

Our Natural Deodorant was developed with our whole community in mind. For this reason, we decided to create a formula of natural deo without baking soda. Excluding this ingredient, reduces the probability of dryness or irritation on sensitive skin.
